Lions Claim District Golf Championship
- Updated: April 15, 2013
The 32-3A District golf tournament was held this past Tuesday at Treasure Hills Golf Club in Harlingen. At the end of the day after a hot and windy afternoon the Lion boys golf team stood atop the leader boards. The boys defeated defending champion Port Isabel to earn the team a trip to the Regional tournament held in Corpus Christi. Leading the Lions was senior Noe Moraida shooting a 100 and also coming in 3rd medalist.
Nicolas Betancourt shot a 111 to claim the 5th medalist spot. This is a group of Seniors that has been playing together since they were freshmen. Their last trip to the regional tournament was two years ago when they were runner-up in the district tournament. Last year 3 strokes kept the boys out of the regional tournament and were determined to make it back this year being their senior year. On the girls side after a rebuilding year with only two starters returning from the previous year, the Lionettes finished a strong second to earn a trip to the regional tournament. Celica Quintana led the way finishing 2nd medalist with a 104. They too will also be playing in Corpus Christi at the Oso Golf Course. Good luck to both teams as they compete at the regional level.
