The City of Harlingen Welcomes Sam’s Club In Harlingen

Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell and the City Commis sion along with the City Manager Carlos Yerena will joined Sam’s Club representatives at the official groundbreaking ceremony on April 4 for the first Harlingen Sam’s Club.
The ceremony took place at the store site on the northwest corner of Highway 77 and Highway 83 Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. The Harlingen Sam’s Club will create new job opportunities and serve as an affordable shopping destination to serve residents where they live and work. The new location is currently under construction and scheduled to open in the spring of 2014.
“We are delighted to see Sam’s make such an important investment in our community. They are bringing a terrific shopping experience here which will greatly add to our rapidly expanding retail shopping district.” Mayor Chris Boswell said.
The new Sam’s Club will bolster the local economy and bring between 175 and 200 new jobs with career opportunities to Harlingen. Sam’s Club and parent company Walmart Stores Inc. currently employ more than 144,000 Texans.
“We are proud to bring Sam’s Club to the Harlingen community,” Market Manager for Sam’s Club, Steve Chadwick said. “We look forward to building a lasting relationship with the community and providing families with high quality products at affordable prices.”
The City of Harlingen invested approximately $5 million dollars into the project to pro vide infrastructure in the form of public roads to the site and the surrounding industrial park. There are currently 75 Sam’s Clubs in Texas and six Sam’s Clubs under construction in Texas, including a new club in Corpus Christi.
