Carlos Gamboa captured the boys’ singles title over Port Isabel, 6-1, 6-1. Keeping up with the boys were the doubles girls, Ashley Avalos and Violeta Gamboa, who captured the girls’ doubles title over Zapata, 7-6, 6-2. Also, the girls singles didn’t want to lose or share the top places as Alisha Valdez played Gabby Reyna in the girls’ singles finals. Valdez was able to win the title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Other team members contributing to the team titles were Andrew Warner and Victor Gamboa, 3rd in boys’ doubles, Angela Hernandez and Denise Garcia, 3rd in girls’ doubles, Japheth Rosales, 4th in boys’ singles, and Alma Zimmerle and Isaiah Jaso, 4th in mix doubles.
La Feria Tennis now advances all first and second place finishers to the regional tournament which is being held at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi on April 19-20.
