3rd Annual La Feria Job Fair takes place Oct. 20

computer_small2LA FERIA – On Oct. 20, La Feria will become a hub for many mid-Valley employers to do some serious hiring.

The 3rd Annual La Feria Job Fair takes place Thursday, Oct. 20 from 1-5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of La Feria.

Whether it is for full-time, part-time or seasonal work, job seekers can connect with at least 22 area employers at the event. Some of the employers will conduct on-site interviews. Plus, Internet-ready computers will be available at the job fair so applicants can immediately fill out and submit their applications online.

“There is no need to register, and there is absolutely no charge. All you need to do is show up and approach the employers,” said job fair coordinator Andi Atkinson.

Though the job fair is open to anyone seeking work, Atkinson strongly encourages residents from the mid-Valley to take advantage of this opportunity.

“There are quite a few rural communities in the mid-Valley, and the residents who live in these communities usually face two challenges: jobs and transportation,” she said. “The La Feria Job Fair is designed to bring the employers to the residents.”

The La Feria Job Fair has been well received in the past two years, with 300 to 350 people in attendance.

“It comes at a good time. Many people are looking for a job or even a second job so they can have extra money for the holidays,” Atkinson said.

She continued: “The good thing about this job fair is that it offers a wide range of businesses and positions. People of all ages and education levels attend because it offers job prospects for nearly everyone.”

The Methodist church is located at 331 Main St. It sits next to Tiny Town park and across from the La Feria public library.

Job seekers who do not have transportation can ride the Valley Metro bus to La Feria for free that day. Riders should call Valley Metro at 1-800-574-8322 for the closet bus stop and schedule. Free child care will also be provided for job seekers with children.
