The La Feria Police department is going all out to make sure their 1st annual La Feria Night Out Festivity is a great success. Uniformed officers with their patrol units created excitement last week as they gathered school supplies and cash donations from cooperative businesses, which will be given away at the National Night Out in La Feria.

The purpose of this creative idea of giving out school supplies to La Feria students was the brain child of Police Chief Cesar Diaz. He said,

“This La Feria get-together coincides with the National Night Out NNO celebrated nationwide. and gives the community a chance to get involved with a project that provides free school supplies to our children, and helps to maintain our qualify of life.

“There will be 200 backpacks given away along with all types of school supplies–all free.”

Eliza Rodriguez, LFPD Communications Sergeant, said, “The chief’s idea really caught on….adding: Businesses, such as: El Centro, Stripes, Dollar General, CVS Pharmacy, and Walmart in Harlingen are supporting the project. There will be free food, hot dogs and refreshments from local participating restaurants”

The chief said, “there will be over 15-17 Valley law enforcement agencies participating, including the DPS, The Border Patrol, police departments from La Feria, Santa Maria, Harlingen, the La Feria Fire department and other Valley agencies.

Diaz said there will be lots of excitement from 5-7 pm at the La Feria Recreation Center on August 24, 2017. The center is located at 901 Pancho Maples Blvd. There will be live music by the REGRESSO BAND, a K-9 Demonstration, Moon Jumps, a dunking booth and batting cage. An evacuation helicopter will demonstrate an emergency air evacuation, with more events to be added this week.

La Feria Police Chief Cesar Diaz invites everyone to attended.

“This is an opportunity to get more involved with the community,” he said.

“Thank you for attending the 2017 National Night Out in La Feria!”
