La Feria opened up their 2017 football campaign on the road versus the Raymondville Bearkats last Friday night, but came up short by falling 22 – 12 in front of a packed house. Raymondville jumped out early scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and converted a two point conversion to go up 16 – 0 on the Lions. The Lions would then answer back when quarterback Dorian Hernandez found wide receiver Julian Trevino on an 14 yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 16 – 6. Hernandez would later run it in from 7 yards out to bring the Lions closer at 16 – 12.
The score remained 16 – 10 in favor of the Bearkats going into halftime and throughout the majority of the second half until Raymondville picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown to make the score 22 – 12. The Lions fought hard and played tough but didn’t make the necessary plays they needed to make at the most crucial time.
The Lion defense finished the game with 3 forced turnovers which included a fumble recovery and 2 interceptions. Richard Garcia and Jacob Garza had the interceptions while Edgar Rosales helped recover the forced fumble. Marc Tamez led the defense with 12 total tackles while Jacob Garza chipped in with 11 tackles. At the time of this writing, the Lions were to face the Falfurrias Jerseys on Friday, September 8th at Lion Stadium. ROLL PRIDE!
