The Lions got back on track with a big 42 – 0 win over the Falfurrias Jerseys last Friday night at Lion Stadium. After suffering a tough loss the week before in the hands of Raymondville, the Lions knew they needed to work harder and play better versus the Jerseys to get the win.
That they did, it was Parent’s Night and the Lions did not disappoint. The Lion offense did their part by racking up 362 total yards of offense for the night, with 209 of those yards coming from the run. The Lion offense looked unstoppable at times as they scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter and 3 more in the second quarter to pull out to a 42 – 0 lead at halftime.
Lion quarterback Dorian Hernandez led his offense with 153 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Two of Hernandez’s touchdown passes were caught by do everything senior receiver Julian Trevino who finished with 117 yards receiving. Running back Darius Hernandez controlled the ground game with a punishing 104 yards and 1 touchdown. The Lion defense was also dominating during the night.
They allowed 25 total yards at halftime and finished the game by holding the Jerseys to a minimal 65 yards of total offense and forcing 3 turnovers for the game.
The Lions will now have a tough test going into their next game versus an undefeated Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial team that has won their first two games by an average of 50 plus points. The game will take place in La Feria on Friday, September 15th at Lion Stadium. We want to wish both the players and coaches the best of luck, Roll Pride!
