La Feria Shriners welcome public events
The La Feria Shrine Club on Expressway 83 is becoming a popular center for public gatherings of all sizes. That was very evident last week when the grounds surrounding the Shrine Club building were overflowing with dozens of white-colored trucks and service units of the Spectrum/Time Warner organization.
Office Manager Olivia Wright said that the company has regularly scheduled district meetings for Spectrum every three months for the past two years. “They started off with some 150 workers, but has now grown to over 250,” she said. “The company and their personnel like our facilities and its mid-valley convenience–and our prices.”
“The Spectrum people bring their own tacos and refreshments for their meeting, and we just provide the meeting area, chairs and sound,” she said, adding, “they do the rest; their people love us.”
The Spectrum/Time Warner company is just one of several major companies that regularly utilize the Shrine Club building. Manager Wright listed Texas Regional Bank’s Freedom Club monthly meetings. Also Lone Star Bank regularly schedules a banquet luncheon for their people and customers—just to mention a couple..
The La Feria Shrine Club also serves as an Evaluation Clinic for the Houston Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. A group of Shriner doctors, nurses and therapists come to La Feria four times a year. Waiting for them are hundreds of desperate children and their families who pour into the Shrine Club building for their evaluation and treatment later in Houston. “That is the humanitarian mission of the Shrine Club,” said Wesley Wright, Director of Transportation for the Clinic. Olivia and Wesley Wright have been doing this volunteer work with the Shrine for 23 years.
“We had to cancel and reschedule the Clinic scheduled this month because of Hurricane Harvey,” Wright explained. “We know the rescheduled clinic will have a larger number of patients than usual, but we’ll be ready.”
Wright said the building has a capacity of 300 persons seated theater style, and 250 banquet style. Anyone wanting information for their group can call Olivia Wright at (956) 797 1524 or visit the office in the Shrine Club building on Expressway 83 just East of La Feria.
