- Updated: July 27, 2018
La Feria students Alliana Briones and Andy Cortez competed in the annual South Texas Junior Golf Classic which was held at the Harlingen Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, July 14th and 15th.
The Event is open to boys and girls, ages 6-18. The tournament is a part of the Southern Texas Professional Golf Association Junior Tour. Contestants can earn points, based upon finish, that may result in additional awards and possible entry into the season-ending Tour Championship. In addition to the Junior Tour, the STJGC also supports the Little Linksters Program. All events and competitions are bracketed by gender and age.
Alliana placed 3rd in her age division while Andy placed 2nd in his division at the two day tournament.
The first tournament was organized by Harlingen, Texas attorney and resident Lee Wiley in 1982.
The purpose of the tournament is to promote the sport of golf to young people and to provide them with a local venue to test their competitive skills. The event was open to the public.
