A group of girls will travel to Beaumont later this month to participate in a national softball tournament.
They will play against teams from Texas, Louisiana, Florida and other states.
Abel Garza, the team coach, said the Cubs were invited to the three-day event this July 26-28.
“They are 12 and under,” he said about their ages. “They have been playing for about six years.”
Garza said the team will play seven games against other teams.
“This is the first time they go out of the Rio Grande Valley,” he said. “But we are planning to do this more often.”
To finance the trip, their parents and other members of the community have been having fundraising and getting contribution from donors.
A tent was set up to sell goodies as part of a fundraiser during the July 4th Celebration held on June 30.
