PORT ISABEL – The stage is set for Friday, October 6th when the Hidalgo Lady Pirates will visit the La Feria Lionettes in what will be unofficially the district championship.
The La Feria Lionettes concluded their district series with Port Isabel by beating the Tarpons on October 2nd 3-0.
The Lionettes are now 8-1 and find themselves in a tie for first place in the district standings due to Progreso upsetting Hidalgo’s Lady Pirates that same night.
Head coach Rebea Fraga said the team is happy with the position they are in.
“We have an opportunity to win the district championship outright,” Fraga said. “We haven’t played our best yet, but we continue to work on being consistent. To win the district championship we will have to be more consistent with all phases of the game”
Sierra Salinas and Natalie Gonzalez led the offensive load against Port Isabel with Salinas’s 11 kills and four digs and Gonzalez’s 10 kills and four digs. On the defensive end, Felicity Watson led the way with seven digs along with Jeno Ochoa’s and Mary Winton’s two blocks.
