The 2019 Lighted Christmas parade will be held this Saturday in La Feria so get ready to admire the string of floats, lights and celebrate the occasion.
The parade, now in its 21st year, will start at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, on Main Street and Commercial Avenue. It will head down to Ninth Street and will end at La Feria Lions Stadium where a city-wide festival will follow.
Mayor Olga Maldonado announced the Story Book Christmas-themed event during Tuesday’s Dec. 3 meeting of the city council.
In other business, the council approved amending Ordinance 20129 regarding its wrecker services.
It kept a cap of 13 wreckers on its roster and reduced their response time to 20 minutes, compared to 30 minutes before the changes were approved.
Rodney Myers, owner of American Eagle Towing, said the new response time is unfair because it takes a while for them to get ready in the event of an emergency.
He said five wreckers operate in La Feria area and that they are to be within a five-mile radius.
So where do the other eight wreckers come from?
Myers said they are from Hidalgo County.
The council also approved standard operating procedures and guideline for the La Feria Fire & Rescue Department and tabled a disposal agreement with Republic Services.
