over Hidalgo

Week 10 saw the La Feria Lions take on the Hidalgo Pirates in another round of 16-4A D1 play. However, this game had an added stipulation. A victory for the Lions meant that they would be crowned the District 16-4A D1 title. A stipulation that the Pirates were well aware of heading into that matchup. The Lions quickly wasted no time.
In the opening drive, which was a very productive one, Lions’ Quarterback Aaron Trevino caps it off with a 13-yard QB Draw into the endzone. Trevino would later punch in a two-point conversion. The lead was quickly cut down to one point as on the ensuing drive for the Pirates, Quarterback Steven Martinez connected a nine Lions raise-up trophy in celebration after winning the district title. Quarterback, Aaron Trevino runs the ball for a touchdown yard pass to Tight end Daniel Carbajal.
Now with the Lions back on offense, The Pirates intensified their defensive pressure as linebacker Tadeo Lara picked off a pass by Trevino. Hidalgo would later take advantage of the interception as star Running Back Enrique Hernandez takes it into the endzone with a 15-yd run. The First quarter ends with the Pirates over the Lions 14-8.

La Feria’s Zion Dickerson tore up the turf as he led the Lions’ rush attack as he later punched a one-yard run into the endzone. Trevino later finds the endzone again off an 8-yard run, and after a failed two-point conversion attempt, the Lions settle for 6. On the last drive for the Pirates, Martinez was looking to go deep, only for Lions’ Elijah Vela to pick it off. La Feria is up 21- 14 over Hidalgo going into the half.
Hidalgo opened up the third quarter with Martinez taking matters into his own hands and running a one-yard QB Draw to tie the ball game. Both Defenses stole the show in the third quarter as there were multiple third-down stops and a turnover on downs against the Lions.
The fourth quarter began with Hidalgo’s A’dhron Zepeda tacking a seven-yard touchdown run to take the lead. The Lions’ defense makes a key stop, which the offense takes full advantage of as Trevino finds Julian Torres for a 53-yard touchdown pass to tie it up once again. Now with Hidalgo back on offense, La Feria shuts down the high-powered Pirate offense. Hidalgo’s ensuing punt would be downed at the Lions’ eight-yard line. Aaron Trevino, who is known to be an efficient leader on the Lions’ offense, goes the distance with a 92-yard QB Draw to take the lead and eventually the win.
In a great game between two high-powered offenses and two explosive defenses, a game that saw 5 total lead changes. The Lions defeated the Pirates 34-28 and would be crowned the 2021 District 16-4A D1 champions. Another District title adding to an already decorated Lions’ football program.
