Lionettes Basketball up to a very hot start in close matchups
By Ruben Rodriguez
La Feria News
The La Feria Lionettes basketball team is off to a very hot start and has kicked off the 2021-2022 campaign with an overall record of 2-1 as they make their way towards the District Calendar.
The Lionettes kicked off the season against a tough McAllen Rowe team as quickly out of the gates, it became a back and forth battle with the score being a one-two point difference. During the second quarter, The Lady Warriors took control but very quickly La Feria began to close out the gap held by Rowe. However, McAllen Rowe increased pressure on both sides of the ball and would eventually take the Victory 58 to 34. After this game, The Lionettes quickly had to prepare for their next opponents
The Lionettes were then challenged once again by a very fierce Edinburg North Lady Cougar Squad, who have been known to be very aggressive defensively and have a fast-paced offensive tempo. Quickly on, the game started off to a quick shootout as at the end of the First Quarter the Score was 12-15 Lady Cougars up. The high octane offensive show continued up until the 4th quarter, where the Lionettes took control to win the game by a score of 50-40.
Next up, during tournament play, the Lionettes faced off against Brownsville Hanna to take on another great team in the form of the Lady Eagles. Similar to the Edinburg North matchup. This game quickly began fast-paced as both teams battled for supremacy over the course of the game consistently. After a down to the wire matchup, the Lionettes came out victorious by a score of 36 to 31. The Lionettes continue to roll down their Non-District Schedule before they take on Rio Hondo December 12th to open up district.
