La Feria News
This year’s Fiesta de La Feria turned out to be a great success. After being on a 2-year hiatus the city finally decided to bring the fun-filled family-friendly event back again this year. This year was the City’s 28th year that the event took place. The event was full of entertainment from the main headliner Gary Hobbs to artists like The Cruisers, Texas Dream Band, Mike Gonzalez Iconiczz, Mark Berry Band, La Feria Folklorico dancers, and much more. There was also a lot of delicious food to feed your cravings from BBQ, tacos, turkey legs, nachos, corn in a cup, and funnel cakes amongst other great food. The beer garden was back again this year as well. Let’s not forget all the vendor’s booths that sold all kinds of items from jewelry, clothing, aprons, toys, and bubble dispensers for kids plus much more. Let me tell you that those bubble dispensers were popular since there were bubbles floating everywhere. The kids also had bouncy castles and a train to ride around in. You could tell that both the kids and adults were having lots of fun. Another big hit and one major part of the Fiesta was the Car Show handled by the Antique Automobile Club of America- Rio Grande Valley Chapter. There were over 100 entries this year. People from all over the valley came to see the car show. Sonia Gonzales brought her family all the way from Mission to see the car show. She’s always loved antique cars since she was a little girl and tries to attend as many car shows as possible. Another car show enthusiast Marco Hernandez mentioned that he was impressed at the number of cars that came to show. He plans to come again next year. At the end, Mayor Olga Maldonado mentioned that she was glad that the weather this year turned out to be great and that she was glad that there was a large crowd that showed up for the event. The mayor would like to thank everyone for making this possible. She wants to give a special thanks to Events Coordinator Pepe Forina for doing an awesome job along with the local police, firemen, public works, and everyone who helped make this happen.
