On Saturday, October 7, 2023, the Nation of Israel was attacked by Hamas during the closing of the Jewish Seven-day Festival of Sukkot. Just before dawn, Palestinians attacked Israel from air, sea, and ground.
Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the public on Saturday morning, telling the people, “We are at war,” and “The enemy will pay an unprecedented price,” he further added that Israel’s response will be “of a magnitude that the enemy has not known.”
Since then, both sides have fired thousands of missiles. Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu warned Palestinians to leave the Gaza Strip. AP News shared on Sunday, Hamas militants fired more rockets from Gaza, hitting a hospital in the Israeli coastal town of Ashkelon.
Many people have been captured by the Hamas group, including Americans. President Joe Biden on Tuesday, October 10th said that 14 Americans had been confirmed dead and others held hostage. Hamas has been labeled by the Department of Defense as a Terrorist group.
Where does America Stand?
On Monday, October 9, President Joe Biden shared, “I have directed my team to work with their Israeli counterparts on every aspect of the hostage crisis, including sharing intelligence and deploying experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts on hostage recovery efforts.”
A US Department of Defense official said, “We’re also making very clear to adversaries or those that might be entertaining entering this conflict to escalate it that they should think twice and not take advantage of the instability,”
The senior defense official goes further by saying, “These posture increases were intended to serve as an unequivocal demonstration in deeds, and not only in words, of U.S. support for Israel’s defense and serve as a deterrent signal to Iran, Lebanese Hezbollah, and any other proxy across the region who might be considering exploiting the current situation to escalate conflict.”
In another release Biden said, “The brutality of Hamas, its bloodthirstiness, brings to mind the worst rampages of ISIS,” Biden said. “This is terrorism.”
“We will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack.”
