After an exciting showing at the 92nd annual C.E. Vail Basketball Tournament. The La Feria Lions continued non-district play and faced off against two opponents who know each other very well. The Lions faced off against The Brownsville Rivera Raiders and San Benito Greyhounds.
After nearly meeting at the C.E. Vail tournament, the Lions took on the Raiders in a non-District battle. Two teams who are familiar in play style definitely can spark fireworks when they face off. After a close knit matchup, the Raiders slipped away and defeated the Lions 45-39.
From the start, both teams played equally and juggled for the lead. The Greyhounds and Lions continued to duke it out as both teams battled for control. The Lions, thanks to key offense late in the game, were able to slip away and defeated the Greyhounds 40-38 in a nail-biting finish.
Now, District action is around the corner for the Lions. Here is the 2023-24 District 32-4A Schedule for La Feria.
The Lions will open up District against the Grulla Gators. Following the Gators, there will be a break in 4A action as the Lions will resume on January 2 against the Hidalgo Pirates. The Lions will then take on Brownsville Jubilee on January 5.
Following that matchup, the Lions will face off against three key opponents against Port Isabel on January 12, Zapata on January 16, and Raymondville on January 19.
After Raymondville, the Lions will open up the second round of district against Grulla on January 23, then Against Hidalgo on January 26. La Feria will then meet with Brownsville Jubilee on January 30. The Lions will take on Port Isabel to open up February. La Feria will wrap up the season against Zapata on February 9, then against Raymondville on February 12.
Last season, La Feria finished in 3rd of District 32-4A, which led to an area Round appearance against Sinton. The Lions look to use the experience in non-District to fuel the drive for a District Title.
