La Feria High School’s girl’s golf team is celebrating a well-deserved victory after clinching the first spot in the district tournament but they aren’t done yet! As they plan for regionals. Head golf coach, David Briones says, “We’ve been putting this team together for a while, so we were due to win district. The team has garnered their talent not only for their collective success but also for the standout individual achievements of players like Alliana Briones. Sophomore grade, Alliana has been working hard to improve her skills for the district tournament, where she secured second place individually.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Alliana Briones expressed her determination to improve, stating, “I just had to keep improving.” Her dedication is evident in her remarkable progress, finishing with an impressive 85 on a par-72 course at Treasure Hills. An improvement from last year’s 95 score.
Despite the pressure of the district competition, Alliana’s experience at the pre-district level, helped her gauge the field.
As a sophomore at La Feria Early College High School, Alliana balances her passion for golf with aspirations beyond the turf. With interests in architecture and interior design after high school.
For Coach David Briones, the victory at the district level is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. With fourteen years of coaching experience under his belt, Coach Briones has played an instrumental role in shaping La Feria’s golf program. Reflecting on this year’s success, he expressed satisfaction in seeing the team’s efforts pay off, remarking, “We’ve been putting this team together for a while, so we were due to win district.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming regionals, Coach Briones is confident in his team’s abilities. Regionals is set to take place at Colony Creek in Victoria, Texas on April 17th and 18th. Coach Briones acknowledges the tough competition they will face but remains optimistic about their chances, citing their strong performance at Pre-Regionals, where they secured second place overall.
When asked about the possibility of reaching the State level, He seems to see the true possibility. Coach Briones says, “This year or next year it’s a possibility.” He adds that they’ll have to play good both days this year at Regionals if they want State.
