Elementary School Receives Project Fit Grant

By Mike Villarreal

Recently, Sam Houston Elementary held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate receiving the Project Fit America Grant. La Feria ISD would like to thank the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation for playing a crucial role in selecting the school for this grant. The funding will help promote fitness in education, which is essential to the district’s mission.

Project Fit America is a national charity that collaborates with educators and schools to encourage kids to be active, healthy, and fit. They work closely with local communities to provide schools with the necessary resources for funding, equipment, curriculum, and teacher training. When Project Fit America comes to a school, kids are eager to participate in physical education, and teachers have reported positive changes in students’ attitudes and health, fostering a greater outlook on living a healthier lifestyle.

For nearly 30 years, Project Fit America has been committed to ensuring that all funds received translate into active opportunities for kids, promoting a healthier future. This program enhances children’s self-esteem and demonstrates that fitness and exercise can be enjoyable. Project Fit aims to address the declining fitness levels among youth, equipping teachers with the tools they need to inspire kids to embrace a healthier lifestyle with enthusiasm.

The mission of Project Fit is to encourage kids to engage in various fitness activities, help them get fit, and create programs that allow every child to discover their unique strengths. While Project Fit has numerous sponsors, most are hospitals and healthcare organizations.

Since the inception of its first sponsorship drive, Project Fit America has raised over $15,822,322.00, leading to the establishment of fitness programs in over 1,000 schools across 400 cities in 46 states, impacting more than 500,000 kids and counting.
