The La Feria Lions Boys Basketball team continues to play well in the 2024 season. At 3-0, here is what we have seen so far.
The Lions had their district opener November 12 against the IDEA Weslaco Pike Mavericks. In a dominant performance, the Lions knocked off the Mavericks 74-38.
Up next was another big challenge in 5A squad PSJA North. The Lions dominated the Raiders all throughout the game. Late in the game, the Lions were up by 15 before the Raiders scratched back. Despite a relentless comeback by the Raiders, the Lions survived 59-54.
Now 2-0, the Lions clashed against former District foe Raymondville. Last season, the Lions had the Bearkats’ number, winning both meetings against them. Last time Raymondville was able to defeat La Feria was February 13, 2023, where the Bearkats won in overtime 71-65. In a back and forth battle between both squads, the victory could have gone either way but it was the Lions who slipped away with the win 57-51.
The Lions improve to 3-0 in non-district play The Lions will have more challenges in the non-district, including Brownsville Hanna, Lyford, San Benito and Brownsville Veterans Memorial. The Lions will open district against Hidalgo January 10, 2025.
