La Feria ISD Launches New Dental Assisting Program

By Mike Villarreal

La Feria Independent School District (ISD) is thrilled to announce the launch of its brand new Dental Assisting Program, a part of the ACE Program. Under the dedicated leadership of Ms. Young, a licensed dental hygienist and passionate educator, this initiative represents a significant step forward for La Feria High School students. Having transitioned from practicing dental hygiene to teaching, Ms. Young brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience that will enhance the learning environment for all participants in the program.

The inaugural year of the Dental Assisting Program is set to create numerous exciting opportunities for students enrolled in La Feria ISD. This comprehensive program is designed to provide learners with a deep insight into potential career paths in the health sciences field—a continually evolving sector. Students will engage in hands-on learning experiences that are not only educational but also essential for developing the skills needed in real-world medical environments.

One of the standout features of La Feria ISD’s Dental Assisting Program is its focus on equipping students with practical, applicable skills highly valued in the healthcare industry. Participants will receive training covering essential dental assisting techniques and procedures, preparing them for a dynamic career post-graduation. What truly sets this program apart is its unique certification offering within an after-school framework. As a result, students can graduate high school with a diploma and the credentials necessary to enter the workforce and potentially earn a starting salary exceeding $36,000 a year.

This program also serves as an exceptional introduction to the medical field, making it an attractive option for students interested in healthcare but may need more time to be ready to commit to extensive higher education. With a strong emphasis on practicality, the Dental Assisting Program enables students to acquire transferable skills that will be beneficial in dental assisting and across various roles in the healthcare sector.

Moreover, career prospects in dental assisting rank highly regarding work-life satisfaction, placing it fifth in such rankings. This profession allows individuals to cultivate lasting relationships with their patients, as they frequently interact with them throughout the year during regular check-ups and procedures.

Additionally, the typical working schedule for dental assistants is conveniently structured from 8 AM to 5 PM, aligning with many people’s preferences for traditional work hours, particularly in private health care.
Overall, La Feria ISD’s Dental Assisting Program is crafted to offer students a robust foundation in healthcare that can lead to fulfilling career opportunities while balancing educational commitments and personal aspirations.
