The La Feria Independent School District would like to congratulate the winners of the “I Got the Job” contest. These students represented their vocational pathways and participated in a mock interview competition. They also had to create resumes and cover letters for the judges to review as part of the contest. The district is confident in the students’ workforce readiness skills as they approach graduation.
The winners of the contest are as follows:
- 1st Place: Cris Reyna (Computer Science)
- 2nd Place: Josiah Ramos (Agriculture)
- 3rd Place: Bryan Vega (Digital Media)
- 4th Place: Aaliyah Herrera (Animation)
- 5th Place: Haley Torres (Cosmetology)
It is essential for job seekers to be able to create a resume and cover letter. These documents outline qualifications and highlight skills, significantly increasing the chances of securing an interview, making a positive first impression, and demonstrating genuine interest in the position.
A well-crafted resume and cover letter can significantly influence an employer’s initial perception of a candidate. The cover letter complements the resume by making it easier to see how your interests and experiences align with the job you are applying for.
Your resume summarizes your background, including work history, skills, and education. In contrast, the cover letter allows you to elaborate on how your skills directly relate to the job requirements.
A well-written cover letter demonstrates your ability to communicate professionally and effectively, helping you stand out from other candidates by tailoring your application to each job. The difference between a resume and a cover letter is essential; a resume is usually a concise list of qualifications, while a cover letter is a narrative that explains how your qualifications suit the role you are applying for.
