Strong Appearance for Lions at Hidalgo Power Meet

HIDALGO, TX – The La Feria Lion and Lionette Powerlifting teams put on an impressive performance at the Hidalgo Pirate Powerlifting Invitational on January 23. The boys’ team secured a strong second-place finish, while the girls also made their mark with several top individual performances.

Lionette Powerlifting Results
The Lionette squad saw two lifters claim first-place finishes. Yessenia Franco dominated the 165-pound weight class, recording a massive 915-pound total from her 410-pound squat, 205-pound bench press, and 300-pound deadlift. Angelina Rodriguez also took home gold in the 97-pound class with a total lift of 425 pounds.
Other standout performances included Caylin Aguero (105) and Samantha Gonzalez (132), who both secured second-place finishes with 530 and 460 total pounds lifted, respectively. Mia Alcala (165) placed third with 625 total pounds, followed by Hailey Galvan (fourth place, 595 total), McKinley Cavazos (fifth place, 510 total), and Kaycee Luna (sixth place, 465 total).

Lion Powerlifting Results
The boys’ team had four first-place finishers, helping them earn their second-place overall team standing. Cristobal Ortega dominated the Super Heavyweight (SHW) class with a massive 1,775-pound total, including a 700-pound squat, 525-pound bench, and 550-pound deadlift. Gabriel Bruno (198) also had an outstanding performance, winning his weight class with a 1,655-pound total.
Eduardo Alvarado (165) finished first in his class with 1,395 total pounds lifted, while Isaias Alvarado (114) claimed the top spot in his category with an 825-pound total.

Other notable performances included:
2nd place: Ethan Molina (114) with 655 total pounds and Abraham Cantu (132) with 920 total.
3rd place: Tayven Torres (132) with 905 total pounds and Dwayne Rivera (308) with 1,325 total pounds.
4th place: Manuel Soto (114), Mason Atkinson (181), and Caleb Vaughan (275) all with strong finishes.
5th place: Francisco Martinez (148) and Sean Frausto (SHW) rounded out the top competitors.

Strong Showing for La Feria
The La Feria powerlifting teams proved their strength and determination at the Hidalgo Pirate Invitational, with multiple individual podium finishes and a solid team performance. The Lions and Lionettes will now turn their attention to their upcoming competitions, aiming to build on their success and continue their dominance in the weight room.
With such a strong showing at Hidalgo, La Feria’s powerlifting teams are setting themselves up as serious contenders this season.
