After a long, grueling Regular Season, the Roll Pride has done it. The La Feria Boys Basketball team has captured the district 32-4A championship in dominant fashion. What seemed like a regular goal led to becoming reality as the hard work of the Lions has paid off in a huge way.
La Feria not only brought home district gold but also did it in a convincing way. La Feria would go on to finish District Play with a perfect 10-0 record.
To open District action, The Lions first took on the rival Hidalgo Pirates and shut them down to win 51-35. In their second district game against Brownsville Jubilee, the Lions were hot on both sides of the ball, controlling the game and taking the win 56-41.
In their third district game, the Lions took on the Valley View Tigers. In a back-and-forth shootout that had a lot of offensive and defensive success for both teams, the Lions took control late in the game and captured the win 44-41.
In their last two games of round one, dominance continued to be the trend for the Lions as they got past Port Isabel 60-49.
To finish up the first half of District, the Lions took on the Grulla Gators. A strong offense and defense was enough to propel the Lions to a 53-34 win over the Gators.
Opening up the second half was Hidalgo. What was a shootout in their first meeting, another battle was expected in the second meeting as well. Well that proved to be the case as La Feria and Hidalgo clashed, with the Lions coming out on top in a Nail biter 39-38.
In the second meeting, La Feria took on another foe in Brownsville Jubilee. The Titans took over the first quarter leading by one. The Lions erupted on offense and continued to outscored the Titans on route to a 56-46 victory.
Up next were the Valley View Tigers. La Feria dominated in the first game and were aiming for a repeat performance. The Lions took control early and never looked back, cruising to a 68-32 win. In their last two games, the Lions routed Port Isabel 63-43, then went on to defeat Grulla in a big way 71-34.
The Lions capture another district title and now turn their attention to the 4A State Playoffs. So now, La Feria will prepare to take on the fourth seed of 31-4A.
