Mayor Olga Maldonado and Commissioners Jesse Zuniga and Devin Martinez took the oath of office during last week’s meeting of La Feria City Council.

The three were re-elected in the May 4 elections.

Maldonado and Zuniga kept their seats as both of them faced opponents, while Martinez ran unopposed.

The mayor, who took office in May 2016, is also police chief with the City of Mercedes.

Zuniga, who is mayor pro-tem, was first elected in 2016.

“I feel good,” he said. “City voters picked me again and I am confident I will be doing the same thing when they first brought me to this office.”

That is, Zuniga said, to take the city out of the red, transparency and to listen and to pay attention to their concerns.

They took the oath of office after the votes were canvassed.

Maldonado received 489 votes, while her opponent, Rolando Ortiz, picked up 367 votes.

Zuniga got 487 votes, His challenger, Alma Martinez-Botello, garnered 366 votes.

Devin Martinez, who was first elected in last November special election, obtained 709 votes.
