Summer Camp 2019 in Full Swing

More than 170 youngsters ages seven to 15 are enrolled in a new learning program but this one does not involve studying to pass a test.

They are in Summer Camp 2019, which is a City of La Feria sponsored initiative that provides two meals a day and a series of activities aimed at keeping them sharp and to develop their creativities furthermore.

The camp began May 28 and runs through June 27.

Among the activities include sessions on robotics, crafts, nutrition, giant scrabble, bowling, swimming as well as field trips.

On Tuesday of last week, a game warden with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department showed up to inform the participants about the programs they have.

Alfonso Rodriguez, the city’s public works director, said a movie is shown each day after breakfast is served at Noemi Dominguez Elementary School.

Lunch is also included and camp days are Monday through Thursday.

“The city bought a giant screen to show the movies,” he said. “We have about 175 kids but our goal is to have 200.”

Therefore, he said, there still room for another 25 youngsters even though the registration period has ended.

The cost is $60 per applicant to register in the program.

Justin Rodriguez, a program supervisor, said a movie is shown after breakfast.

After that, he said the fun starts with all sort of activities.
