BBQ Cookoff on Table for July 4th Celebration
- Updated: July 5, 2019
by Tony Vindell/LFN
Calling all meat meisters, BBQ fans, outdoor chefs and backyard cooks.
The City of La Feria is hosting a Backyard BBQ Cook-Off during this Saturdays, July Fourth celebration and there is still time to register to participate in the event that has prizes for the best fajitas, brisket, chicken, beans, baked goods and pan de campo cooked on site.
Although Monday, July 1 was the deadline to register for $100 per team, late arrivals are welcome but will have to dish out $25 more to participate.
Alfonso Rodriguez, the city’s pubic works director and one of the cook-off organizers, is inviting anyone who believes he or she can’t cook meats on an open grill or in a Dutch oven.
“The city is sponsoring the event,” he said, “and all the money will go to the winners.”
Rodriguez said the city has been hosting the cook-off for some time but it has been put aside on and off.
“We used to have close to 30 teams,” he said. “We are doing it this year and hope to get good participation.”
