Ready for some moist or lean tasty BBQ without having to go out of town?

South Texas Smokehouse, located at 129 W. Oleander in La Feria, has a little bit of everything for those who like such type of food.

Although brisket is its main course, the eatery has chicken, sausage, turkey, ribs and loaded potatoes.

But don’t expect to see smoke rising from the top of a big smoker as the food served there is actually prepared at its main business in San Benito.

The BBQ joint opened a couple of months ago but because of family issues, it closed temporarily and reopened early this month.

Jose Cordova and Yuri Rios run the place that is open Thursday through Sunday.

They said business has been brisk since they reopened early this month.

It’s a grab and go place where people can either order by telephone or at the counter. The business sells plates, sandwich combos and meat by the pound.

On a recent day, the eatery experienced a busy day and those who left said it was about time to have a BBQ place in town.

RAM’s BBQ on the west side of the city along the Frontage Road of I-2 has apparently closed for business.

La Feria residents Ricardo and Norma Vela, who stopped by the eatery recently, said the food was as good as it gets.

“Everything was real good,” he said. “My wife went back to get food for the boys. I will be going back again, for sure.”

South Texas Smokehouse gives a 10-percent discount to law enforcement officers and first responders.
