La Feria Plays Vital Role in Valley Construction Industry

A La Feria –based company, which has been supplying the construction industry with building block and other supplies since 2006, is still going strong after all these years.
It’s called Innovative Block of South Texas and is the only such plant doing so in this part of South Texas today.
The company buys sand, cement, gravel and limestone to make the blocks and employs around 30 people. They distribute their products all over the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
Armando Treviño, the company manager, said making construction blocks is their main line of work.
However, the company keeps adding products as a way to diversify its operation.
‘One of our goals is to become a one-stop shop,” he said during a recent tour of the facility. “We are planning to start selling sheetrock sooner than later.”
Outside the plant are hundreds of thousands of blocks waiting to be shipped on flatbed trucks to their destinations all over the Valley and as far as Corpus Christi, Laredo and San Antonio.
An estimated 100,000 blocks are produced each month and are used to construct schools, strip malls and courtyards.
Company products are sold at a number of stores including McCoy Builders, Home Depot, Alamo Lumber, Southerland, Dr. Ike’s Home Centers and Sakrete.
