Annual Parade Brings Storybook Christmas to Streets of La Feria

The City of La Feria was in full swing this past Saturday with plenty to do from the Oleander Street Market which had music, food and a variety of booths to shop from to the 21st Annual Lighted Christmas Parade which drew a large crowd.

This year’s theme was a Story Book Christmas which took the parade along main street to the High School parking lot. Parade goers were entertained by brightly lit floats, marching bands, walkers, hot rods and at the end Santa Claus riding on a bright red fire truck.

After the parade people made their way to the High School parking lot to take part in the City’s Winter festival which had food, music, games and Kenny’s Funland Carnival.

A few winners’ trophies were given out at the festival from Parade entries to vendor booth decorations.

Trophies started with the Walkers category- 1 st place- C.E. Vail Elementary, 2nd place-Sam Houston Elementary and 3rd place- Sanchez Elementary. Marching band winners were 1st place- W. B. Green Jr. High and Second place- La Feria High School.

The float winners had a trophy and cash prize winners were: 1st place- Sam Houston Elementary, 2nd place- Noemi Dominguez Elementary and 3rd place – C.E. Vail Elementary.

The home and RV Park decorating contest also received recognition at the festival with 1st place going to Mary Villagomez-Palomino Ave., 2nd place- Manuel Briones-Magnolia Ave. and 3rd place went to Pete Delapena-Short Street.

RV park winners were 1st place-VIP Park, 2nd place- Yellow Rose RV Park and 3rd place- La Feria RV Park.

Finally, the Vendor Booth Christmas decorating had Elisa Mendoza as the 1st place winner Mercedes Tx., 2nd place – Texas Original Kettle Corn Co. of Los Fresnos and 3rd place Texas Lady Spartans of Harlingen.
