RSL expands coverage to Coastal Bend area

As Rio Grande Valley athletic programs try to maneuver their fall sports schedules around county mandates and the University Interscholastic League’s updated calendar, the Coastal Bend is full speed ahead.

The Corpus Christi Independent School District recently kicked off the 2020 football and volleyball season and Rio Sports Live was there to steam more than a half dozen games.

The move is a step toward RSL’s expansion to the north after covering mostly the Rio Grande Valley, Eagle Pass and Laredo area since 2017.

This will not be the company’s first brush with the Corpus Christi sports coverage area as it began bringing viewers the Coastal Bend Game of the Week this past sports season.

RSL founder Joe Bowling Jr. said the company is eager and grateful for the opportunity to work with CCISD, and other Coastal Bend schools going forward.

“While we’ve spent the last three years growing and doing our best to provide Rio Grande Valley Schools and their supporters the best live sports coverage, we are excited to extend our reach to the Coastal Bend on a more consistent basis,” he said.

“We have enjoyed working with Corpus Christi ISD, whether it be during the pre-district season, the postseason, or for our Coastal Bend Game of the Week. We are looking forward to covering another area full of talented student-athletes and providing coverage to its proud supporters, especially in such a trying time.”

Bowling said RSL also will look to expand its coverage to Kingsville and other Coastal Bend schools once schedules are released.

“We at Rio Sports Live pride ourselves on providing the best sports coverage under any circumstance and this will be no different,” Bowling said.

“Like in any situation, safety for the student-athletes, fans, employees is priority No. 1 and we hope to provide an outlet for live sports coverage so nobody will have to choose between safety and watching their local sports.”
