School board votes to continue transition to in-person instruction, reduction in tax rate

Classes to return at 35 percent capacity on September 21st


On September 14, 2020 the La Feria ISD School Board held its regular meeting. There were two important items to be discussed. One of the items was to extend the start of 2020-2021 school year transition beyond the 4-week limit.

The board decided to take action to not extend the start and continue with an in-person transition starting on September 21, 2020. Only 35% of the students chose to do in person classes while 65% of the students chose to remain in remote learning for now. They will be allowing parents to change from remote instruction to on campus instruction but changes could only be made at the end of the six weeks and two weeks prior notification must be given to the district of this change.

Another important item on the agenda was approval of the 2020-2021 tax rate. The board approved a tax cut from $1.25435 to $1.20816 for this upcoming year. The approved tax rate of $1.20816 consists of Maintenance and Operations of $1.03070 and interest and sinking of $0.17747. For a total tax rate of $1.20816. Discounts will be offered as in prior years, October 3%, November 2% & December 1%.
