UTRGV Athletics Promotes Letty Hernandez to Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services
- Updated: October 1, 2020
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Thursday that Letty Hernandez, who has worked with the department since 2008, has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services.
Hernandez initially started as a University advisor assisting Athletics programs before transitioning full-time to UTRGV Athletics in 2016.
“Letty has helped numerous student-athletes reach their full potential in the classroom and has been an integral part in the academic success of UTRGV Athletics,” Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Molly Castner said. “Her passion to assist student-athletes is unmatched. If she is not in the Victory Center assisting our student-athletes, you’ll often find her cheering them on in the stands at our home contests.”
Hernandez manages the department’s tutoring program for student-athletes and has enhanced the program over the last year with virtual tutoring. Hernandez was a key part in helping to guide student-athletes through the transition to virtual learning, helping them to achieve what is believed to be a department record 3.38 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
This past spring, Hernandez helped the men’s basketball team to a 3.10 GPA while helping the baseball team to a 3.45 GPA.
