An Amazing Season

The La Feria Lionettes took on the Hondo Lady Owls in the Area Round of the 2022 UIL Class 4A Region 4 Playoffs. The Lionettes advanced to Area after a thrilling series victory over Zapata in the Bi-District Round. The Hondo Lady Owls out of District 29-4A.


Game one of a three game series took place on Friday with the Lady Owls scoring in the top of the first inning. A defensive battle for the majority of the game saw Hondo score a second run in the top of the fourth inning. La Feria would respond in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to tie the game up at 2-2.


The Lady Owls offense took control in the top of the sixth inning, bringing in three runs. Hondo’s defense would shut La Feria down to hold on and capture game two 5-2.


Saturday comes around, La Feria is once again down 0-1 in a similar case as last week’s Bi-District Round matchup against Zapata. La Feria would waste no time and score two runs in the first two innings. Hondo would respond in the bottom of the second inning and tie the game up at 2-2. Another defensive battle in game two saw Hondo score later on in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead.


La Feria’s offense quickly went back to work, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning to retake the lead 5-4. Despite solid defense, The Lady Owls would score six runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Hondo again would display a great defense to hold La Feria Scoreless and defeat the Lionettes 10-5 to advance to the Regional Quarterfinal, ending the Lionettes’ stellar season.


Hondo will now face off against 31-4A Powerhouse Calallen in the Regional Quarterfinal. La Feria finishes their season at 24-13 overall, and 10-0 in district play.
