Harlingen, TX – Saturday, June 29th Texas Roadhouse will host its first Rib Fest: Police and Fire Challenge from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Harlingen Police Chief Tom Whitten and Harlingen Fire Chief Mike Rinaldi will each lead a team of 5 men in a relay style rib eating challenge competing for their charity of choice. The Police Department has chosen The United Way of Northern Cameron County and the Fire Department has chosen the Harlingen Ronald McDonald House. The winning team’s charity will receive 10% of the store’s food sales on Monday, July 1st.

Owner Rick Lopez said, “We love the chance to give back to the community and the Police and Fire Departments have always been great partners of ours. This event is an opportunity for some friendly competition and a great way to raise money for local charities.”

In addition to the rib eating challenge, the Fire & Police Departments will be giving safety tips in honor of National Safety Month. Children will be able to tour a fire truck and police car, along with other fun activities.

Leading up to the rib eating challenge there will be a rib class from our kitchen manager that will show our 3-day process for cooking our award-winning, fall-off-the-bone ribs! And, to wrap up the event we will do a live drawing for a Kamado Joe smoker. The smoker is currently set up in the store and you can walk in during business hours to enter to win! No purchase necessary.
