La Feria Knocks Off Former District Foe
By Ruben Rodriguez
La Feria News
The La Feria Lions took on the Rio Hondo Bobcats in another round of non-district hoops. A former district rival, La Feria and Rio Hondo have tangled in the past. Last season the Lions and Bobcats split the regular season series 1-1. La Feria won the first meeting 77-66, while Rio Hondo returned the favor in the second meeting with a 59-47 win.
In a back-and-forth affair, La Feria and Rio Hondo constantly changed leads with both teams attempting to get the upper hand. The key offense by the Lions took control late in the game. Efficient passing and shooting played a factor as La Feria was also able to hold off Rio Hondo to win 42-37.
For the Lions in District 32-4A, La Feria will open up District action against Rival Hidalgo on January 3rd, 2023. Last season, the Lions went 1-7 in 32-4A, finishing fifth and missing the postseason. For this year, La Feria is set to go and punch their ticket to the playoffs.
