For more than 17 years, the Dominguez Family has hosted the Adrian Dominguez Memorial 5K Run/Walk in La Feria to celebrate the life of Adrian who was a student at La Feria High School when he passed. Race proceeds have funded 54 college scholarships for La Feria High School students.

To recognize the families dedication to the community, La Feria city leaders presented the family with the Keys to the City and State Representative Oscar Longoria presented the family with a framed state proclamation in their honor and a flag that had flown over the State Capital.

“Mr. Dominguez is a humble, honest man and I know the last thing he wanted was all this recognition, however, I feel it is important, as the leaders of the community, to take time to say thank you to a man who continues to be a role model for our children,” said Mayor Steve Brewer.

Commissioner John Betancourt read the names aloud of the scholarship receipients from over the years at the special city council meeting held July 3 to honor the family.

City Manager Sunny K. Philip praised the families’ efforts saying, “We are proud of your efforts each year to organize the race that starts at the Veteran’s Memorial Sports Complex each Saturday before Easter. It promotes healthy habits and you are a good example to the community. We are thankful for what you are doing”.

“I want to thank our many volunteer helpers…it is just not our event, it is the community’s event. He remembered how Gloria Casas suggested he start the run many years ago. Dominguez said City Manager Philip is a major key to making the event happen each year along with our great school system. I wish we could do more.” commented Mr. Dominguez about the recognition.

Tony, son of Manuel Dominguez, also addressed the large crowd to thank the community for their support.
