Recently, the Santa Rosa ISD Texas ACE program, in collaboration with Texas Parks and Wildlife and Santa Rosa ISD, offered a remarkable glamping experience for a group of middle school and high school girls at the picturesque Garner State Park. Nestled in the scenic community of Concan, Texas, within Uvalde County, Garner State Park stands as the most popular destination in Texas for overnight camping, attracting nature enthusiasts from across the state.
The park is celebrated for its crystal-clear Frio River, which winds through lush landscapes, offering opportunities for swimming and kayaking. Towering canyons and stunning limestone cliffs create a breathtaking backdrop for campers, making it a perfect spot for hiking and exploring. This adventure not only provided the girls with a chance to connect with nature but also fostered teamwork, leadership, and resilience, contributing to their personal growth in a beautiful and serene environment.
From the moment they arrived at the picturesque campsite, the girls eagerly immersed themselves in the breathtaking beauty of the great outdoors. They embarked on invigorating scenic hikes along winding trails, marveled at the vibrant flora and fauna, and enjoyed a leisurely hayride. As the sun set, they found solace in peaceful birdwatching, spotting various species flitting among the trees, and even took the opportunity to try their hand at fishing in the tranquil waters of a nearby lake.
A standout highlight of the trip was a special compass navigation lesson led by a knowledgeable Texas State Park Ranger Superintendent. During this engaging session, the students learned essential outdoor survival skills, including how to read maps, use a compass, and navigate through the wilderness, all while fostering teamwork and communication among peers.
In addition to the outdoor adventures, this trip proved to be an invaluable team-building experience. The middle school counselor facilitated impactful activities aimed at combating bullying, boosting self-confidence, and enhancing peer relationships. These reflective and collaborative moments allowed our students to grow not only as individuals but also as a cohesive and supportive sisterhood, forging lasting bonds.
The staff at Santa Rosa ISD would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful parents for entrusting them with your children and allowing them to partake in this enriching outdoor adventure. Your support truly means the world!
They would also like to express their deepest appreciation to Superintendent Dr. Rodriguez and the Santa Rosa ISD School Board Members for their unwavering belief in the power of hands-on learning. Their commitment has enabled our students to explore the magnificent natural landscapes of Texas, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The weekend served as a perfect reminder that learning can take place in myriad settings—whether amidst the wonders of nature, through exhilarating adventures, or alongside supportive friends. We eagerly look forward to many more opportunities to inspire, empower, and educate our students beyond the confines of the classroom.
