The Lions came into the Mercedes game knowing that they would have to play their very best to keep up with a tough tiger team.  The tigers jumped on the lions early and often in the start of the game and outscored their opponent 21 – 0 in the first half.  The lions then scored their first touchdown of the game on a pass from Isaac Galpin to Angel Carrera to make the score 21 – 7.  The tigers would then score again to move their lead to 28 – 7.  Despite the fast start by the tigers, the young men from La Feria showed that they had no quit in them.  They then scored on a short touchdown run by Rusbel Gonzalez to make the score 28 – 14.  The lions would threaten again when Ozzie Cisneros picked off an interception by the tiger quarterback and returned it into lion territory.  La Feria had an opportunity to close the gap but the rain would soon come down hard, making it hard to move the ball.

Despite the lead by the tigers, the lions went into halftime feeling confident and riding some momentum.  The rain came down even harder the entire second half and put a hamper on the flow of the game.  Both teams struggled to move the ball in the heavy downpour and had to resort to running the ball almost exclusively.  Despite the conditions both teams displayed an incredible amount of heart and toughness in the game.

Both La Feria and Mercedes came into the game with tremendous respect for one another and that continued as the game ended.  It was a hard fought game and one that will only make each other a better team.  Despite the loss, the 2 – 1 lions feel confident moving ahead in the season.  La Feria will now face Sharyland Pioneer and Progreso in the next couple of weeks before heading into District play.  Both games will be at home at Lion Stadium.  Good luck to the Lions and Roll Pride!
