La Feria Police to Sponsor Annual Easter Egg Hunt
- Updated: March 27, 2015
La Feria Chief of Police Donato Garcia promises that the 2015 annual Easter Egg hunt will be bigger and better than previous years in celebration of La Feria’s Centennial.
“There will be a new category for younger hunters, continual live music and lots of free food for the families participating,” Chief Garcia said.
The event will take place at the La Feria Nature Park on south Rabb Road Saturday, April 4, 2015, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 12:00 noon with the awarding of the much sought-after prizes in three categories. There will be signs posted to direct traffic.
“This year,” Chief Garcia said, “there will be prizes for the new 1-3 year-old hunters’ category who must be accompanied by a parent, The second group of 4-6 year-olds and the third group of 7-to-10 year-olds will be allowed to hunt by themselves. The reason for this new group is to give the young ones a better chance at finding a hidden egg.”
The chief said the official start of the Police-sponsored annual Easter Egg Hunt will be at xactly 10:00 a.m. 5,000 to 7,000 colored Easter eggs have been scattered over the three designated search areas. Those areas will be cordoned off till the actual hunt begins
Chief Garcia said his officers look forward to this traditional police department event each year. “We’ll be serving free hot dogs and hamburgers to everyone, so bring the whole family early,” he said, adding, “there will be signs posted giving instructions for the hunters to find the right areas to go to. All these arrangments are for safety and to give everyone an equal opportunity.”
Children with special needs are welcome at the event according to Garcia. Should a child with special needs want to participate, the family should speak with Chief Garcia before the start.
Free transportation is being offered to participants as the parking lot is at a distance from the actual hunting area.
The Chief said, “this is going to be the biggest and best Easter Egg Hunt we’ve had, and I hope to see everyone there. If anyone has questions, call the office at 797-3121.
