- Updated: March 27, 2015
Fifty comics will be available for free at participating comic shops on Saturday May 2, 2015
(BALTIMORE, MD) — The biggest free comic book event of the year is taking place on Saturday May 2nd where anyone can go to a participating comic book shop and get free comic books in celebration of the annual event, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD). This year, there are 50 free comic books that will be available to choose from for free containing stories great for comic book fans and readers of all ages to enjoy.
Retailers on the FCBD Selection Committee chose 50 titles overall to provide fans a wide range of stories to choose from presented by publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, Image Comics and 36 others. Titles for the FCBD 2015 comics include DC Comics’ Divergence, Marvel’s Secret Wars, Fight Club, Transformers, Doctor Who, Spongebob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Tick, Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rabbids, and more.
“We are extremely excited about the quality and diversity of all 50 free comics that will provide comic book fans a great opportunity to read original and revamped stories for free, which in turn can open up a diverse world of comics to them as they read these stories for the first time,” said FCBD Spokesperson Deborah Moreland. “The titles offered this year are great for readers of all ages, so there’s something everyone can enjoy. We are sure fans and retailers will be pleased with the line-up and we look forward to hearing about and seeing their Free Comic Book Day experiences.”
Comic shops will also host community events such as costume contests, drawings by guest artists, creator signings, raffles, door prizes, photos with costumed characters, and other community building activities throughout the day. Every comic shop celebrates FCBD in their own unique way and fans have an opportunity to see their local comic shop’s personality and thriving community of pop-culture enthusiasts on display.
