It will be a long time until La Feria sees another ribbon-cutting ceremony to match the one Eric and Tina Hoff staged to announce the official opening of their Bottle Shop Liquor Store. It’s located at 1314 East Business 83 in La Feria. That location was stormed last weekend by guests and customers who wanted to meet and greet some real headliner news makers.

Mayor Victor Gonzalez and Judge Mike Trejo were among the local celebrities who took part in the well-supported ribbon-cutting event. Popular radio personality Bonnie Hernandez of Super Tejano 102.1 FM broadcast the whole ceremony live from her remote van. She mixed with the crowd and kept things alive, and especially with the arrival of Friday’s Special Guest: NFL player and Rio Hondo native, Roberto Garza.

Hoff estimated some 400 people came to meet and take pictures with the star football player who was a letterman when he graduated from Rio Hondo High School. He was immediately drafted by the Atlanta Falcons and went on to play 10 years with the Chicago Bears. For his performance on the field, he was nominated for the NFL’s Man of the Year in 2006.

The star attraction Saturday was the presence all afternoon of “Senior” during the Tasting of S’Loonshine & James Bourbon at the Bottle Shop. “Senior” is the star of the hit TV show “Full Throttle Saloon.” Both “Senior” and Roberto Garza signed autographs on just about anything people brought–from napkins, cowboy hats business cards, footballs, and bottles of liquor. They patiently stood by for endless “selfies,“ As the saying goes: “A good time was had by all.”

Now that the formalities are over, Eric and Tina Hoff invite everyone to visit their completely remodeled liquor store. The location has been a La Feria landmark for decades. For information, call 797-5700 or 650-0720.
