HARLINGEN – As we begin a new year, we are reminded how life can often be unpredictable. When it comes to unexpected injuries or illnesses, it’s comforting to know that award-winning emergency care with experienced board-certified physicians is available 24 / 7 just off the Expressway, at Harlingen Medical Center.

Whether it’s the trauma of an automobile accident, sudden chest pains in the middle of the night, or dealing with an unexpected flare-up of an ongoing illness, the staff at Harlingen Medical Center is always ready to provide efficient and compassionate healthcare for Valley residents and winter visitors during their times of greatest need.

“Harlingen Medical Center is known for its rapid, efficient delivery of medical care,” said Dr. Michael Mohun, Medical Director of the Emergency Room and Trauma Director of the Level IV Trauma Center at Harlingen Medical Center.

During 2016, Harlingen Medical Center was named “Best Emergency Room” by readers of the Valley Morning Star. This “Readers’ Choice” award was made possible by the staff of emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, specially-trained nurses, and support staff members at Harlingen Medical Center, according to Connie Manley, RN, BSN, HMC’s Emergency Room Director.

“Our dedicated staff members are what makes our ER so special and so awesome,” Ms. Manley added.

An example of those dedicated staff members is Shane Russell, RN, an emergency nurse at Harlingen Medical Center who was nominated by his fellow ER nurses for one of two “Hero Awards” at the hospital.

“Not all ‘super heroes’ wear capes,” Ms. Manley said. “Shane was nominated for this award for his leadership and his critical thinking skills. Patients love him and the staff loves to work with him.”

Also nominated by his peers for a “Hero Award” during “Emergency Room Nurses’ Week” was Jaime Sargent, a patient care technician at HMC’s Emergency Room.

“Jaime goes above and beyond all the time,” said David Salas, RN, ER Clinical Manager at Harlingen Medical Center. “He is hard-working and very pleasant. Along with his teammates, Jaime is an example of why our ER is so successful.”
