Lions Fall To Zapata 35 – 7
- Updated: October 27, 2017
by Coach Jaime Acuna
The district opener versus the Zapata Hawks did not go according to planned for the La Feria Lions last Friday night at Lion Stadium.
The Lions were coming off two impressive wins against Port Isabel and Santa Rosa but struggled throughout the game versus the Hawks.
Zapata scored an early touchdown in the first quarter to give the Hawks an early 7 – 0 lead in the first quarter. Both teams seams sluggish and out of sorts, especially the Lions who were coming off of an open week.
The Zapata Hawks went into halftime with a 7 – 0 lead and both teams knew many adjustments would have to be made. The Lions came out of halftime eager to play better in front of a packed crowd at Lion Stadium.
Julian Trevino did that as the Lions opened up the second half with a 14 yard touchdown to tie the game at 7 – 7. That would be the last score for the Lions as the Hawks went on to score four more touchdowns in the second half to give the Hawks the 35 – 7 win.
The Lions will now travel to Kingsville on Friday, October 20th to face a tough Brahma team. We wish the coaches and players the best of luck and safe travels to all going to the game.
