Benjamin Garza- 7th Grade

Benjamin Garza, 7th grader at Santa Maria Middle School, is the first student to get inducted into the Santa Maria Middle School Millionaire Word Club. He reached this goal on Thursday, October 22, 2015 after reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

His passion for reading began in the 3rd grade when he remembers feeling bored; however, instead of watching television he decided to pick up a book and read. He also credits Mr. R. Quintanilla, his former reading teacher, for sparking his interest in reading. Benjamin stated that he likes to read because not all books are the same and each book has a different storyline. His favorite books to read include the Harry Potter collection. He stated that it normally takes him 1 week to finish up one of those books.

His next goal is to reach 2 million words and become the first student to do this at SMMS. In addition, his plans for the future include becoming a good student at a prestigious college where he will earn a Master’s in Radiologic Science.
