La Feria Mayor Olga H. Maldonado welcomed the guests and recognized several guests in the audience. She said, “We have come to honor those who made the supreme sacrifice by the construction of this monument. These braves soldiers left behind all they knew to fight on foreign soils. Many came back with the memories of their buddies who fell in battle. It is very proper that we give tribute to those men with this Veterans Memorial Monument.

“We want to give our thanks to all these veterans and their families assembled here for this Ground-breaking ceremony,” she said. Mayor Pro-Tem, Esmeralda Lozano, gave a very appropriate Memorial Day Recitation for the occasion.
