La Feria High School recently hosted the second annual Digital Media Summer Camp, which proved to be a resounding success. The four day camp, which took place last week, provided an immersive experience in Graphic Design, Photography, Videography, and Animation to students ranging from 7th to 11th grade.

One notable addition to this year’s camp was the inclusion of Animation as a course. Gabriel Garza, a professor at TSTC (Texas State Technical College), served as the animation instructor. With a background in 3D animation and studying at Universal Studios in Florida, Garza brought his passion and expertise to inspire the young minds at the camp.

Students who attended the camp expressed their excitement for the newly added animation course, highlighting their interest in the subject matter. Megan Trevino, the coordinator of the camp and Digital Media Teacher at La Feria High, acknowledged the demand from the students and was thrilled to be able to offer animation as part of the curriculum this year.

In addition to animation, the camp also featured expert instructors in other areas of digital media. Juan Almaguer, from Noctua Design, and Yadira Hernandez, guided the aspiring graphic designers throughout the camp. Destiny Saldivar, from Heart and Sol Photography, shared her knowledge and skills in the field of photography. Abe Hernandez and Waldo Trilla, both experienced professionals, provided insights into photography and videography techniques, respectively.

Abe Hernandez enlightened the students on various aspects of photography, including capturing stunning shots, understanding different lenses, employing effective shooting angles, and shooting in manual mode. On the other hand, Waldo Trilla not only shared his expertise in photography but also delved into the realm of videography. He imparted knowledge about achieving smooth movements, seamless transitions, and the effective use of different equipment.

Megan Trevino extended her gratitude to the businesses and instructors who collaborated to make the Digital Media Camp what it was; a success. She commended their efforts in teaching and inspiring the students, allowing them to explore their creative potential in various digital media fields.

With the Digital Media Camp at La Feria ISD providing a platform for students to gain hands-on experience and learn from industry professionals, it is evident that the camp has become a valuable resource for nurturing some already shown talent in the digital media and educating students in the possibilities in the digital media world. As technology continues to advance, opportunities for young individuals to develop their digital media skills and carve a path toward a creative career are becoming more accessible than ever before.
