Less than eight months after the 2022 FIFA World Cup took the world by storm, soccer fever will once again grip fans, this time in North America. The Biennial tournament which features 16 teams ( 15 from North America, one from Middle East) will take place in the United States and Canada starting June 24.
The Defending Champion United States, will open up tournament action against Central American Rival Honduras. Team USA, who is fresh of a victory over Canada in the Nations League Championship.
Looking to turn things around after a slow 2023 is Team Mexico. “El Tri”, has had a rough time in the 2023 international schedule. Some of the downsides Mexico faced included a confidence devastating 3-0 loss to USA. Mexico also made some internal changes, firing Head Coach Diego Cocca and bringing in former 20 Coach Jimmy Lozano.
Lozano previously led Mexico’s U20 to a Gold Medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Other teams to look out for include Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Jamaica.
The odds certainly look great for USA and Mexico, who won the last two installments. All time, Mexico has won eight titles while the USA has won seven.
All the action begins in late June to early July.
