The La Feria Lions cruised to a victory over the Calallen Wildcats in the Class 4A Bi-District Round of the State Basketball Playoffs. Due up in the Area Round were the Somerset Bulldogs, a team that had become a South Texas Staple in the past few years.
The First Quarter saw the Lions and Bulldogs battle out. A close-knit matchup, La Feria and Somerset closed out the first quarter with Somerset in the lead 13-11. However, the second quarter became a different story as Somerset outscored the Lions by 13 points as the Bulldogs led La Feria 31-16 at the half.
The defense stole the show as both teams were limited to less than 10 points each. With a combined 17 points in the third quarter, the Lions still found themselves trailing the Bulldogs 40-24. The Bulldogs once again took a big lead in the fourth quarter and slipped away with a 55-36 win over La Feria.
La Feria’s season comes to an end with an overall record of 23-9 and 12-2 in District, as well as an area round appearance. The Lions certainly had some success this season, improving from last season.
