Special to La Feria News
Haley Ramos, a senior at La Feria High School, received the DAR Good Citizens Award and a scholarship from the Lt. Thomas Barlow Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. Haley was recommended by her high school because she exemplifies the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. She then took advantage of the opportunity to enter the optional Essay Scholarship contest and won that contest earning the scholarship. Haley plans to attend college and major in physics. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a volunteer service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.
Tracing your lineage is valuable because it preserves your family’s heritage. DAR volunteers are willing to provide guidance and assistance with your first step into the world of genealogy. For more information please visit dar.org.
